He invades your privacy, lurks like a thief, he shows gruesome details, and even teaches your kid profanity. Good thing it's not your nanny! It's only the TV.
But isn't a nanny like TV. She has so much
control and influence in your child's life. She's not just a stranger slumming in your house, devouring your groceries or killing time while she stupidly stares at your kid. She's someone who takes over your home when you're away. I don't want to call it a replacement, because you'll always be the nagging mom or the slouch potato dad, but more like a reinforcer. Like a police officer, nannies reinforce rules and values especially when no one's watching. She's there to witness your child's growth and transition when you're not around. You may want to take them seriously, more than just an outside help, but a part of a surrogate family that will nourish the love, care, and attention that your child needs.
A nanny should always be a family. A family who's armed to take on the responsibility and a family who'll always be there. So before you introduce a stranger to your
tad's life, make sure that she's worth the invasion and intrusion into your life. Don't just hire a nanny, adopt a family!
