The interview is perhaps the most important aspect of screening and hiring a nanny. Through interviews, you get to know a little more about the applicant's interests, hobbies, and personality. This will give you clues if the nanny you will hire is good enough for the kind of childcare you family needs or has the personality of a good caregiver. Here are some tips:
Asking about the nanny's background
You should learn as much as you can about the nanny you'll hire, since she will be the one to look after your kids when you're not around, care for them when they're sick, and someone you and your kids can rely on. The well-being and safety of your kids is in her hands, so prepare questions that will help you get to know her more. The common mistake during interviews is that questions are focused solely on childcare experience. However, when you ask applicants about their family, why they chose to be a nanny, and what they love to do, this allows you assess their personality better and know if they're fit for the childcare needs of your family.
Asking about the nanny's childcare services
Don't just base your selection on personal preference simply because you have the same interests as the nanny or because she seems to have a good personality. Also ask about the childcare services she can provide. Most nannies often have basic CPR and first aid training so they can deal with emergencies at home. Some even have childcare courses and training. It's good to ask for recommendations, criminal and health record to be sure that your child is safe to be around that nanny you're planning to hire.
Make sure that the nanny you'll hire have the childcare abilities your family needs as well as the personality and character to handle such tasks.

Need help around the house? Consider hiring a seasonal nanny if you need someone to supervise your children while you're away, or when your full-time nanny has gone on her vacation. When screening a nanny that you can hire for a set period of time, here are some things you need to go over:
Nanny requirements
Even for seasonal nannies, certain requirements are asked an agency or by a direct employer like you. A seasonal nanny should have experience in childcare--some require at least one year. Recommendations and references are also a good way to verify her experience and good moral character. References could be from former employers or teachers that you can easily contact with their given phone numbers and addresses. A nanny must also have a driver's license and a good driving record in case the nanny needs to pick up and drop the child to school or anywhere as requested. Of course, a good health record will make parents feel more at ease knowing that their child won't be exposed to dangers of having a disease-carrier around the house. Most often, basic CPR and first aid training are required if not preferred. Make sure that the nanny you will hire has no criminal record and has included verifiable personal information in her resume.
What to consider when making the final selection for seasonal nannies
Prepare a set of questions before doing the interview. The questions should first be about her background and any personal information worth sharing such as hobbies, interests, or any plan. Another set of questions should be about her experience in childcare. As much as possible, make the interview a two-way forum. Allow her to ask specific questions about your house rules, and let her know about your expectations. When down to your final list of nannies to hire, set the interview together with your family so you can assess her personality, lifestyle, and abilities as a caregiver or nanny. In the second or third interview, you can negotiate about the salary, hours, and the benefits you can offer.
When hiring a seasonal nanny, be clear about the schedule and time you'll need her services. Make sure that you have agreed on the employment terms before the nanny even starts to work for you.

Generally, an au pair is regarded as a foreigner who helps a family do domestic work. The family then serves as a host, who in return for the au pair's service, offers room and board. The au pair gets the opportunity to learn the local language of her temporary home and many other things about the country. The hiring of au pairs is also a practice in the United States.
Becoming an au pair in the US
Becoming an au pair in the United States requires that the prospective au pair possesses certain qualifications and have documents to prove these. An au pair must be between 18 to 26 years old. She cannot be 27 prior to arrival in the US. She should be fluent in English and, ideally, must not be married. If she is to stay with a family, which has a child below two years old, then she should be able to present documentary evidence of at least 200 hours of childcare experience. Initial qualifications and requirements include a high school diploma or its equivalent, passing of a psychometric test, and at least three non-family references. The au pair should have no criminal record and should agree to be a congenial part of a particular family and therefore will not be allowed to get additional employment in the US.
Au pair services and conditions
As an au pair, responsibility to the family usually includes domestic chores such as cooking, housecleaning, driving and more frequently childcare. The family should at least provide a private bedroom and meals for the au pair. Special dietary requirements, international phone call expenses, and medical insurance are shouldered by the au pair. Airfare to get to the US and the family’s residence is negotiable.
Au pairs are a welcome alternative for families in the US where domestic help and nannies are hard to find and expensive.

With so many scare stories going around, it has become very important to find a good nanny, if not the best nanny, for your child. There are surefire way to check out who’ll be a good nanny or not.
Check the background when hiring a nanny
The professional background of your prospective nannies should be the first item that you check. A good nanny will come with impressive credentials, and maybe even an educational background in childcare or caregiving. As much as possible, ask your prospective nannies for recommendations from their previous employers.
Be informed about the nanny services she can provide.
Not all nannies are the same. Know your standards of a good nanny and what you expect. You may prefer a nanny who can cook or can teach your children basic reading and writing. It takes a specialized training to be able to do these well.
Interview the nanny about the basics of child care.
The interview process of your nanny selection is important. At this stage, talk to your prospective nannies about childcare. Ask what they know and typically do when caring for children.

If I am so critical with my child's care, my sister-in-law took another dare. I know it's hard enough to raise a child, but it's so much harder if you're a single mother. I am sympathetic, but I could do none. She lives in Ohio and we only get to see her once in a while.
At 18, Marissa gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, although she didn't know who the father could be. It's too late to even track them down, when her boyfriends have already scooted to college. So she's left with no choice but to find a job while the baby stays with her granny. Little by little she's able to provide by working double time. This baby girl is now 7- years old when her granny died.
From her granny, her baby girl was left to a teenage nanny. That's all she could afford while she's taking on the second job. The teenage nanny seemed pleasant and nice so she didn't worry at all. Until one lazy afternoon, she went home early from work only to see the teenage girl smoking pot in the living room.
She's obviously high with Mary Jane so she asked her to get out and never to come back. From then on, she quit her second job just to stay beside her fragile daughter. If you think this is it, wait 'till you hear this! After two weeks, the teenage nanny came back, this time asking for money. It was some sort of a blackmail. She dares to tell a social welfare station if Marissa would refuse to consider the deal.
Marissa could not stand to lose her daughter, so she paid and moved in to our place. Right now, my wife helps out in looking after the child. Even with such circumstances, you cannot dare leave a child to a stranger you barely know. Do not gamble, for there are good and bad nannies. Be sure to know the best one.

Today, several parents are hiring nannies. Because of busy schedules, parents tend to hire a nanny who will provide proper child care for their kids. However, in hiring a nanny, parents should think about the benefits and drawbacks. Although there are significant advantages when hiring one, there are also downsides in doing so.
Actually, one of the advantages when getting the service of a nanny is that, the child can be healthy even if both parents are not around. It's the duty of the nanny to take care of the child, including giving proper nourishment. More so, parents can ask help from a nanny to prepare a milk in the morning, while they are preparing themselves going to their respective businesses. A flexible nanny is also an advantage because parents, specially career minded mothers, can attend to more tasks other than household duties.
However, parents should also give considerations on disadvantages when they hire a nanny. Hiring a nanny can be costly. Depending on the qualifications of the nanny, parents may pay as much as $700 weekly. In addition, we all know that it's hard to find someone to trust fully especially if the welfare of the child is at stake. If the nanny is not an honest person, she is a headache to the child's parents.

The time has come for you to look for a nanny that will look after your kids, since you are about to go back to work now that your maternity leave has finally come to an end. So how does one find the perfect nanny who is trustworthy and able to handle your kids?
The best way to begin your search is to advertise for a nanny in local broadsheets. However, in doing so, you would probably end with a lot of unwanted applications that do not qualify your children's needs. Such process is also a long one, but being patient will surely lead you to the perfect nanny that you are looking for. Next is to also do some research regarding agencies that provide nanny services that agree to your amount of budget for a nanny service. Ask among your circle of friends or colleagues for possible references and referrals for your best nanny candidate. But one should also beware of con nanny agencies that will probably give you unqualified and inexperienced helpers. When you have finally picked, say, 10 possible nanny candidates, a thorough interview should be followed. It is a must to ask questions regarding their background, educational attainment, their experience in handling children, and other essential questions that will help you decide if a candidate is qualified enough. If the applicants provide references for their background, it is best to check on them for your safety.
Finally, when you finally have your choice of nanny, observe how the nanny handles your kids first for about one week. When you are finally satisfied, then you can now safely leave your kids in the hands of your preferred nanny.

There are some reasons why you should hire a nanny. But there are more good reasons why you should get the service of a stay-in nanny. Since a nanny plays an important role in child care, it's wise to welcome a nanny to live with you. The bonding between your child and nanny is important to be able to perform her duties well. You can allow your nanny to be around your child during the day and even at night.
If you will allow your nanny to stay-in, you will easily discover her personality. In addition, she can render overtime if necessary since she lives in your house. But under the law, you still have to provide overtime payments for extending hours. More so, you will never hear your nanny making up excuse for being late in her duty (due to traffic or weather) as she's always on time.
However, when you hire a stay-in nanny, you must provide a separate room with a bathroom for her. Make sure that she's well compensated. For salary matters, you can search from or ask different nanny placement agencies for the prevailing salary of live-in nannies in your city.

A nanny must understand the fundamental child care in order to perform well her specific duties for you and for your child. Like any mother, nanny can understand the needs of your child. But in certain cases, like child autism, nanny must clearly understand her important roles to play. If your child is suffering from autism, let your nanny understand the case and the situation of your family.
When hiring a nanny, be sure she has a background in caring a special child. This will make things easier for both of you. Knowing the case of your child is the first step in dealing with autism. So, your nanny must be aware on how to deal with this kind of problem. But although she may have a background on autism, you must still have to discuss some factor affecting her relationship with your child.
Your nanny must understand the routine of your child, too. This is your homework. Let her know some do's and don'ts when caring for your child. If possible, let your nanny read some articles about autism to broaden her knowledge on this area. She must also know the needs, behaviour, and wants of your child.

If you are a busy mother, you will really have to get the service of a nanny. A professional child caregiver, or a nanny, will help you to watch for your little boy when you're in the office. Nanny will serve as extension of your hands to touch and manage the day-to-day needs of your child.
But the question is, how will she able to remember all your instructions for the entire day? That is easier with The Child Care Organizer Trio. It has full details with 3 versions that will help you instruct your childcare giver step-by-step even if you're in home. This will help you get a peace of mind, too, because all households instructions are clearly stated on the organizer.

So, with this organizer, you will help your nanny to know the priority things to do on particular time. This organizer will help you see things even if you are attending your business dealings. Smart choice, isn't it?

Other people may look down on a nanny, but many households today are grateful for a nanny, present and past. Without a nanny, parents would not be able to juggle between work and home. Children would also not be guided properly if not for the availability of a nanny.
Despite some notions that a nanny is just a helper or a maid, being a nanny really is a serious profession. Just consider: a nanny logs in time and spends an average of about twenty five hours a week merely doing her job. That is more than what a regular office worker puts in a company. Although there are nannies that work twenty-four seven, the typical schedule is different in the United States.
Plus, it must also be remembered that a nanny most probably has her own family to feed, so rendering about fifty hours every week in another house means more time being away from the nanny's own family. In addition, a nanny also has to have day-offs so that the nanny would not be burned out with all the hours she spends in her employer's dwelling place.

Most nannies think that the best method to discipline children is by giving them punishments. These people are so wrong because this method only develops fear in the children. When this happens, they will carry these feelings as they grow up and will definitely affect their outlook in life. Most grown-ups who had traumas as a kid become depressed, schizophrenic, etc. I'm sure you do not want that to happen to the children you are taking care of.
According to scientific studies, experts have concluded that it is better to give children rewards rather than punishments. Their years of research confirmed that these young people respond better to the good or positive consequences. In giving them rewards, it is the job of the nanny to be creative. It does not mean that you should spend money to buy them the things they want.
You can read them stories before they go to sleep in their cozy dwelling place. You can also give them hugs, kisses, etc. to show them you care even though they have done something bad. However, it does not mean that you should not punish them anymore. The punishment usually depends on what the children has done. After you punish them, make sure that you explain to them why you had to hurt them. Tell them the bad thing they did so that they would know the reason for spanking or scolding them.

How much does one nanny cost? That is really the question you need to answer if ever you decide to hire a person who will take care of your kids while you are away. But, the truth is, there are a lot of factors that you need to consider when you are deciding the price range of the nanny. This is the reason why we do not really have an average salary for your nanny.
When deciding how much to pay him or her, the first thing you must take note is the number of the kids he or she will be taking care of. Of course, the unwritten rule here is that you pay more if ever you have many children. A nanny who is taking care of one child should have a lesser salary than the one who is taking care of five kids. Even though you want to give him or her more for his or her services, you should also remember your budget. The salary you will give your nanny should fit your monthly cash budget in your home.
The number of years he or she has been working as a nanny also plays a vital role in the salary range. You should pay the nanny more money if he or she has enough experience in taking care of children. If he or she is only starting, then you can pay him or her less money. When you are interviewing him or her, ask if he or she will be live in with you at your dwelling place or will go home to his or her house. This part can also help you decide on his or her salary range.
Monday, January 8. 2007
When you are about to hire your nanny, it is never enough that you make a verbal agreement with him or her. It is very important that you should record everything you have discussed on paper. Include in this so-called contract his or her duties, working hour in your humble abode, amount of salary, and other important details. An important thing in this written document is the signature of both parties. This means that you and your new employee have agreed on everything that is on the document.
Even though you are only hiring him or her as your children's nanny, it does not change the fact that you are his or her employer. Just compare it a big company that is hiring new employees to work for them. In order for them to protect the company's interests, the owners or bosses require a written agreement. In any case there are some misunderstandings between the two, they can just refer to the contract to clear things up. This incident can also happen between you and your nanny employee.
Aside from making the working agreement clear and simple, it can also protect you as an employer. There are times when a nanny comes back and accuses you of paying him or her less than most people. If ever he or she does that, you can just show the document that is signed by you and the accuser. Then, you can tell him or her that there is no basis for complaints since he or she agreed with the working conditions.

Your children are the most precious people in the whole world for you. As such, you want to give them the best of everything: home, family, food, school, money, and child care. In order for you to put them to the best schools, feed and clothe them, there are times when you have to spend time away from them and earn money. When this happens, you leave them at the care of a nanny.
When hiring your nanny, it is always important to check their health status. This is a priority so that your children's health will no be put in the line. If ever you neglect this, then you might hire a nanny infected with TB or some other dangerous disease. When he or she gets left with your kids, then they will also acquire this dangerous communicable disease. I'm quite sure you do not want that to happen.
When you get the nanny services from an agency, the people there will tell you he or she has already undergone health screening. But to be on the safe side, conduct your own health screening with your trusted doctor. This is to be really sure that your hired nanny is definitely free of sicknesses.
Saturday, January 6. 2007
When you hire a nanny, it is advisable that you pay what you really owe him or her. If ever you have some extra money, it is also recommended that you give him or her a few extra money or tip. When you are generous with him or her, he or she will also be generous when it comes to caring for your beloved child. Always remember that the nanny is the person you trust to be with your kids when you are working and trying to earn money.
Also, the job description of a nanny is to take good care of your children, feed them, teach them, bathe them, and others. Even though you can ask him or her to do a few household chores, you should not treat him or her like a helper who has to cook for you, fix the house, clean your bedroom, and run errands all the time.
When you do this, he or she will no longer be able to concentrate on his or her job. The tendency is that your young ones will be the one to suffer. Due to the fact that their hired nanny is so busy doing household chores, he or she will not have enough time to feed them, put them to sleep, and do fun stuff with them.
Thursday, January 4. 2007
I have seen a lot of shows wherein nannies abuse the children when the parents leave their dwelling place. But when the parents arrive from their jobs, the trusted nannies change back to the sweet and caring person they portray. Of course, the kids are afraid to tell their parents what their nannies do to them for fear that they might get spanked really hard. The parents only discover the abuse their children suffer by recording the nanny acts through a portable video recorder. They see that nannies spank, curse, and pinch their kids.
I'm pretty sure you do not want that to happen to your children. That is the reason why it is very important to check or investigate the nanny's background. Do not be contented with what the agency said about the person. Most of them would only say positive things because they want their employees to get hired. Do the investigation yourself by checking his or her background if he or she has any criminal records. It is also important that you are 100 percent certain he or she is cleared from child abuse.
Before you hire him or her, always ask for a minimum of three work references from his or her previous employers. You need to ask him or her for personal references. This will guarantee that your children will be in good hands.

The most difficult task for parents, specially the mothers, is responsible parenthood - the science of childcare. The common misconception with regards to parenting is that it only starts when the child is born, when in actuality, parenthood begins as soon as the mother gets pregnant.
Most mothers, who did not prepare for the coming of their infants, experience postnatal depression because they can not simply understand the needs of their babies and they are not knowledgeable of the proper ways in caring for their little bundles of joy.
Nowadays, most households hire nannies. Parents prefer a nanny who already had an extensive experience when it comes to childcare or a woman who had a formal study on the principles of child psychology or child health. A nanny is expected to take good care of the child when its parents are out for work or in a long honeymoon vacation with minimum supervision. Parents put their trust on nannies since they are incapable of doing what they are obliged to do. A nanny can also be the child's teacher or nurse. There are variations in nanny works and a woman in this kind of job is proven to be very versatile.

When you have decided to hire a nanny, there are two ways to look for the person who can take care of your kids. The first option is to hire an agency. When you do this, the people there will be the one to choose a nanny for you. Of course, he or she will still be subject for your approval. If ever you do not like the person they assigned to you, they will choose and choose until you approve the person. Even though this method is very easy, it can leave a big hole in your pocket.
The reason for this is that you have to pay the agency a large sum for their services. That is usually different from your saved up money you give your nanny as salary.
There is a way to save money, and that is to search the perfect nanny by yourself. To be able to do this, the first thing you can do is place an ad on your local newspaper. It is cheaper than hiring an agency. When making the ad, always make sure that you write all the necessary requirements you are looking for such as a non-smoker, good caretaker, and others.
Of course, you will be the one to screen these people until you find the perfect person who you can trust with your kids when you leave your humble abode.

If you plan on joining the world of child care, then why not choose to be a nanny? For me, it is one of the most vital jobs in the planet because it involves caring for a human being. By becoming a nanny of a child, it's a given that you're more than willing to give love, care, passion, and dedication for your job, and most importantly, for the young ones.
When you turn into a nanny of one family in their very accommodating home, it means that they trust you 100 percent. Why would they leave their kids with you for a whole day if they think that they cannot depend on you, right? As such, you also have to complete your tasks to the best of your abilities. In order to do this, there are some requirements that need to achieved.
The first of these is that you must always put on your priority list the child's well-being and even his or her safety. When you take good care of him or her, your attention should be focused on the child and not on other things. You must not watch TV shows or sleep while he or she is awake. By becoming a nanny, one of your responsibilities is to expose the child to good manners, language, and even eating habits. This will help him or her grow to be a fine person.
